Conference
Summary
The First International Conference on Recent Advances
in Bifurcation Theory and Applications of Dynamical Systems was held in Jinhua
City, Zhejiang Province, P. R. China, during the period of June 8-12, 2005.
This conference was funded by both the National Natural Science Foundation of
China and Zhejiang Normal University (ZJNU), and was organized by the Center
for Dynamical Systems and Nonlinear Studies and College of Mathematics and
Physics, ZJNU. Prof. Shui-Nee Chow from Georgia Institute of Technology and
Prof. Peter Bates from Michigan State University co-chaired the Scientific
Committee.
Prof. Hui Xu, the President of ZJNU, was the Honorary
Chairman for the Local Organizing Committee. Prof. Fangyue Chen, Dean of
College of Mathematics and Physics, ZJNU, and Prof. Jibin Li, Director of
Center for Dynamical Systems and Nonlinear Studies, ZJNU, co-chaired the Local
Organizing Committee. Over 140 people participated in the conference, they were
from 11 countries and regions, such as USA, Poland, Canada, Italy, France,
Japan, Spain, Germany, Austria, Hong Kong and the mainland of China. Of which,
36 participants were from overseas, other participants came from over 40
Chinese universities and research institutes, and a number of young scientists
and over 30 MSc or PhD students attended the conference.
The opening ceremony was hosted by Prof. Wenxian Shen
from Auburn Univ. The opening speech was given by Prof. Chengzhi Li from Peking
Univ. Prof. Lu Li, the leader of ZJNU, made a welcoming speech, and gave a
brief introduction to Zhejiang Normal Univ. Finally, Prof. Jibin Li reported
the preparatory process of the conference, and announced the schedules and
plans for the 5 day conference.
The number of abstracts submitted to the conference
added up to 117. 68 invited speakers delivered 40 minute lectures, and 9
contributed speakers gave 20 minute talks.
All the lectures given during the conference relate to
the latest advances in the research of bifurcations and chaos of dynamical
systems and nonlinear science, and attracted great attention and interests of
the audience. The atmosphere of discussions was very lively. During the
conference, the participants had variety of discussions and exchanges of ideas.
Some of the topics discussed had led to intentions for research collaboration
and cooperation.
Conference lectures were given at the Jinhua Hotel and
College of Mathematics and Physics, ZJNU, respectively. Participants were
deeply impressed by the beautiful campus and the development of the University.
In the morning of June 12, the conference was
successfully closed after Prof. Peter Bates and other 4 speakers' lectures.
All participants praised that the conference was very
well organized. And the audience, especially young scholars and students,
learned much from the lectures. The conference reached the goals of exchanging
new ideas and latest advances in dynamical systems, creating cooperation
opportunities, and promoting high level research collaborations. Therefore it
was a successful conference.
All participants were grateful to Zhejiang Normal
University and the National Natural Science Foundation of China for great help
and financial support, and they were also grateful to the Center for Dynamical
Systems and Nonlinear Studies and College of Mathematics and Physics, ZJNU, for
their tremendous works done for the conference.
It came to an agreement that the next conference will
be organized and hosted by Guangzhou University, Guangzhou, China.
